Fuck It All.

Laura immediately jumped in and attacked, determined to make up for her poor display before. She moved like a viper, sinking claws into men as she twirled around in a dangerous dance. Logan would be impressed. He would see that she was good enough to have around and could follow orders. No killing, no killing, it was a chant in her thoughts every time she struck a blow. Inches away from an important artery, millimeters away from the heart, all as exacting as a surgeon. She couldn’t afford to make mistakes.

But she spun too fast and a guard moved into it. She sliced through his neck with her toe talon and blood spattered her face. She stopped, eyes wide in surprise and foot still in the air, holding him up as he died. He slid off but she remained still a second longer, then looked around fearfully. Immediately she retracted her foot blade and moved on, because just because she had failed didn’t mean there weren’t still people coming out of the woodwork. And she still had a job to do, even if one aspect of it was now a moot point.

Boom-Boom couldn’t help but feel a little proud of herself, and her team. They made Logan smile, Logan. Smile. Only a little but—Logan smiled. It felt like a victory in itself. Tabitha could literally feel every muscle in her body relax when she heard Rahne was found, and alive. Mission accomplished, almost. Rahne was safe, John to boot. All they had to do was find Ramona, and they could go home. Tabitha was already planning what she was going to do once they got home. She was going to spend all day in her bedroom with Wanda. She was going to plan her song and dance routine with Ramona, the one they were going to perform at the produce section of Wal-mart. She was going to go on the worlds biggest shopping spree to buy gifts for Rahne and Laura, and when Rahne was 100% healed, she was going to cling to the little red wolf like there was no tomorrow.

Alright, let’s go. One more time. Tabitha followed Logan around the corner, to the mess hall. She could feel her energy collecting in her hands, her time bombs were going to be brimming with explosive energy. She charged forward, igniting her blow torch like flames as soldiers approached. As soon as the tip of the flame came in contact with skin the entire string of flame combusted violently. It was then that she saw Laura, who was frozen, and the corpse beside her. Laura! Tabitha ran to Laura, firing her torches silently, left and right. She stopped, three feet away from Laura, keeping her distance, but having Laura’s back, like they had discussed the day prior.

Megan was automatically relieved when she heard that Rahne and John were safe. It didn’t make her feel better that Ramona was still in the clutches of that monster, but they were going to keep going until they got her and could finally go home. She smiled inwardly, she hadn’t felt this close to people in a long time. And, being with the team as Logan told them all how they had all done well, made her feel like she was accepted—despite her insanity.

Everyone sprang into action when they got to the mess hall. At first, Megan struggled trying to bring the dagger back. But, the more she thought about Ramona, and the more she felt that failure was not acceptable (Also, the more that these soldiers were pissing her off.), it drained the bit of soul down through her arm and appeared again as the dagger. And, she stabbed and fought as hard as she could with the help of her team. She could not stop to hesitate, hesitation made you dead. And, she could not risk another blow. She had taken them down rather quickly, although Tabby’s blasts had made their number decrease. They weren’t too far from their goal. We just have to keep moving forward and we’ll all be safe. Pixie could only hope.

Out of the corner of his eye, the old mutant saw what his clone had done. Well fuck. At least it wasn’t on purpose. We’ll talk about it later, right now, we need to keep moving.

"Yer fine, let’s go,” came a barked order in that split second of hesitation, and as she geared back up and kept on mark, he was rather pleased that she did, in fact, follow orders so well.

And, of course, that she was so talented in the art of war. Even if it bothered him that she was a weapon, trained and put together to murder, Logan had to admit at least to himself that she was very good at what she was made to do.

In a crackling tone, Forge’s loud voice rang clear; they had everyone, it was time to retreat. Fucking finally.

As Pixie and Boom-boom took out the last of the majority of the guards, his own voice piped up, and he stopped dead, waving them back towards the entrance. “Time ta’ go home, girls! Mission accomplished,” if with several minor hitches. Hey, shit happens. Xavier’s going to bitch like a little girl, but oh fucking well. Nothing was on purpose by my girls. Ain’t like they’re bloodthirsty fucking animals.

Not really.

Shit. Fucking. Happens.

He made his way towards the opening in the room, head turned back as he waited for the others to start moving forwards. Logan always preferred to be the last one out in this situation; any guards that came out of the grain would have HIM to go through that way… and he was about as hard to go through as a rock.

When the small pink haired girl went down, he expected to run over and take care of her, protect her from the soldiers; but when that dagger came out and she slashed with all she was work, somewhere, deep down, he was very impressed. He made sure to note that in the back of his mind.

As the ceiling crashed in on most of the offenders, the large-muscled feral took out the last few stragglers and called in the girls for a small stop. He needed to check their wounds and asses them before taking any more action.

“Girls, c’mere. I need to check ya’ out. Pixie especially.”

He wasn’t worried about Laura - she was like him… and would be fine.

“Keep yer eyes peeled though.”

Laura obediently walked over to Logan, but kept herself in a fighting position and her eyes narrowed. Already her wounds were mending and all she felt was a dull throb in her head that was slowly starting to dissipate. The other girls had fought with gusto and she was impressed, although their technique was clearly lacking. But they were far better than she had expected them to be and had been an asset. And it was not as if she was one to judge. She had been positively horrendous in that last onslaught. It made her insides twist and for a second her eyes tore away from watching for guards to look at Logan. She bit her lip and fixed her eyes forward again.

Tabitha’s eyes shifted around cautiously, and then she charged to Logan’s side. Any second more guards could rush in, and Tabitha was the only one here without a healing factor. If her ribs were crushed, well that was it for her, and she wasn’t about to be slowed down. They weren’t done yet. She wasn’t going to be taken down yet. She ran to Logan and stopped beside him. She reminded herself that the entire time they had been storming the place, inside and out, team Beta had been looking for Rahne. They had to have found her by now, or be close. She hadn’t heard anything from Forge, but hey, with all the explosions she was setting off, he could have spoken to her several times and she would have had no idea. Tabitha looked at Logan through her mask, ready to get going again. Ready to rescue Rahne. Ready to go home, be safe… Bond with Laura, go shopping with Wanda, watch senseless movies with Jubilee. There was a lot to be done once they got out of hell.

Snapping out of her daze, she nodded and went over to Logan to see if she was alright. She still felt pain, but she could manage. She looked down to wear the dagger was before and found that it was gone, and she was normal again-well, she was herself again. She had never done that before, though. She always knew she was holding something back, but she wasn’t sure what it was until now.

She looked at all their faces and saw worried looks; she wanted desperately to brighten the situation. But, the best way to do that was fight, help out, and hope to get out alive. They weren’t out of the woods yet, however.

The man looked them all over and made sure none of them were falling apart at the seams, and was more than satisfied when they all appeared to be together. “Yer all doin’ great. This ain’t the first rodeo fer any’a ya’, but it’s not any easier for a long, long time. I’m very proud’a all of you. While shit was explodin’, there were a couple communications - Rahne and John were found, Ramona is still MIA. We’ll be done here soon, and then we can go home and rest and ya’ can heal.”

He cracked the smallest of little smiles, cracked his knuckles and nodded finitely. “Let’s get back to it. Nose to the grind, an’ all that.”

Running slowly, he made his way around a corner, made his way towards what appeared to be the mess hall; they could take out the last big batch of soldiers there.

Logan…

The badger of a man took the girls inside, directing them down the main branching hallway, stabbing at machines along the way to make sure they wouldn’t come back online even when the power came back. Directing them towards where he had seen a great deal of the animal fucking asshats guards moving to.

Making sure that none of the others were in there, he directed Tabitha, “Throw in a good sized bomb, Boom-boom!” and led the other two girls to continue their brutal decimation of the compound.

Pixie was still more of their lookout, but that mind control and terror of hers was useful as hell. Laura and Logan… well, they were only really good for one thing, right now…

Drawing blood, and enjoying the living fuck out of it.

Laura sniffed at the air thoughtfully. Under the metal and stone, she could smell the blood and acid and the clinging smell of medical supplies. And under that she could smell anger and even more powerful fear permeating from every inch of the compound. The hair on Laura’s neck stood on end and she let out a low growl at the back of her throat before she could control herself. It wasn’t the fear that was freaking her out though, it was the medical antiseptic smell that set her nerves on edge. Something about the whole affair felt almost clinical.

Strange. She wasn’t supposed to be feeling so agitated. Feelings didn’t play into missions. Unless they were instinctual feelings. But looking around, Laura didn’t see anything that could be setting her instincts off. So it was something else inside of her. No matter. Alpha team was the brute force team, not the team that was supposed to investigate. She just had to stab, that was all.

Blow the shit out of more guards? Oh yes, Tabitha could hear the angel chorus inside her head. She put her hands together, generating a bomb about the size of two basket balls. She steadied herself, throwing the bomb in the middle of the fray. In made contact with some soldier’s knee, and blew sky high. Chaos broke loose in front of her, they leapt and fired, but another four bombs and all was pretty much silent. Some of these guards might be dead, and if they were, Tabitha still decided it was far worth it to save Rahne, and Pyro.

The blonde mutant made sure there was no more movement in the little area before she backtracked, throwing two handfuls of bombs at the machines Logan had destroyed. Well, they could never be too broken, could they? Satisfied, the hyped up girl smirked to herself and turned around, making her way back to Logan. They were deep into enemy territory by now. They had to be close to the source, right?

The more guards came at her the more she was reduced to using her “pixie dust” on them. It seemed like the rest of the team had everything under control, because the numbers of guards had gone infinitely down. But, she still cried out whenever she noticed someone aiming their gun at Logan, Laura, or Tabby- which they promptly took care of.

So, things had gone surprisingly smoothly—which worried her. It had seemed almost too easy, but then again these probably weren’t pros that they were fighting against. But, nothing was for certain. She obviously wasn’t used to combat like Laura or Logan. Megan was just worried that the worst had yet to come.

The worst was, indeed, on the way; grunts being out of the way left the much more experienced soldiers - quieter, more efficient, with armour piercing weaponry. It wouldn’t rip through what Forge built, but it would hurt like a baseball that was launched at 80 miles an hour. One of said bullets hit the feral in the side of the face, tink!ing off the side of his metal cheekbone and making him lose his focus for a moment.

Well, that was annoying. A soldier smart enough to stay away from the foot soldiers made a point of hiding behind the others, aiming now for that lithe pink haired fairy girl and landing a good shot.

If you take down the lookout, it makes life easier.

Yeah. He was buying Tabby a steak. All that explosive power deserved a pat on the back…

Laura seemed off though.

Between launches of his claws into the leg of a soldier, he called to her. “You’re doin’ good, X-23.”

Logan led what his oestrogen drenched party down from the X-Jet, frown heavy on his lips. Laura’s the only girl that ain’t green here, he pouted, and this is no…

All things considered, the girls were doing great. Each of the more violent would get a stern talking to, and all of them were going to get some sort of dinner. He could play proud parental figure in times like these, because whether or not he admitted it, he took each of them into his heart and wanted to protect them.

When he heard the call of ‘watch out’, he ran towards the offending guards, easily cutting them down by the hamstrings, knocking them out easily. He removed their weapons, and ordered the girls to start moving into the compound. They would take them out one by one, and help get to the others.

F2F - Wolverine/X-23/Boom-Boom/Pixie - Team Alpha

Logan led what his oestrogen drenched party down from the X-Jet, frown heavy on his lips. Laura’s the only girl that ain’t green here, he pouted, and this is no place for either’a the other two. Tabs’ got the gall but it ain’t good ta’ get someone like that in a habit’a bein’ in strife. This’s probably the worst choice Forge’s made in a while, the stupid metal-brained fucker.

It wasn’t long before what was meant to be the brute force team met their first obstacle; men with guns, ready to kill. The near indestructible man moved in, quickly shouting directions.

"X-23, watch for stragglers, take out the edges! Boom-boom - hit ‘em hard, blow a hole in the wall, scare the pants off ‘em! Pixie, play eye-in-the-sky, watch movements!"

Laura emerged from where she’d been hiding in the shadows, nervous that this was how she was about to meet most of the people she lived with for the first time. But the good thing was that this was a mission and they didn’t expect her to introduce herself. And after this mission, she wouldn’t have to because they had already worked together and would know that she was a member of their team after fighting side by side. Since she was aiding them in reclaiming one of their own she would then be accepted into the fold without any sort of “hello”s and “it’s nice to meet you”s.

At first Laura ignored the box of suits though because contrary to what Logan had said to everyone else, she was in fact mostly indestructible. But after a pause, she noticed there was one in there for her as well and something inside her fluttered in surprise. She hadn’t actually expected it. Carefully she withdrew the suit and put it on quickly. She smiled faintly to herself, then looked at everyone impatiently. “We should have left before this. You are slow. Let’s start the mission now.”

Forge rolled his eyes at his fellow educator and quaintly flipped him the bird before addressing the kids. “Alright - seriously, though. Suit up. They have vital monitors that let me know how you are all doing and GPS. Once you get in there, that won’t work because of all the stuff in the walls, interference, blah blah, you get the point. Every single one of you suit up.”

“Teams will be as follows: Ramona will be our scout. Her mutation is perfect - she can shadow-hop her way inside and make sure that they… well, make sure we know that we need to take them back, be that just the jet or something more… well, I’m not going to think about that. I’ve noticed Pyro’s not here - where is that asshole? He was all freaked out a while ago and now he’s not even here.”

A huff followed, and he rolled his eyes. “We need Wolverine, X-23, Tabitha to take out the guards. Bomb them, scare them, incapacitate. You will be team Alpha. Beta will consist of Nightcrawler as a lead, Toad, Shockwave. Shockwave will need to take out the electricity, then you will all go searching for Wolfsbane. Once she is gathered, we pull out, taking out as many as we can. Destroy databases on the way out - all computer like things, kill them.”

“I’ll be on your X-Comms; if you need me, smack the X on your chest and I am there.”

Returning at once as soon as she had suited up, the petite girl stood amongst her peers and superiors with a calm look about her despite the beating of her heart pounding in her head. She avidly listened to Forge go on about the extra contraptions put into their suits beforehand, and it honestly surprised her just how simply amazing it all seemed. The man was truly a master at his work. She could not even tell her suit held such things, let alone held any equipment at all!

But then she heard her name and her blood ran cold. She was going to scout the building on her own? Without any sort of back up or partner? Her body tensed from her standing position next to Alistair. Of course she understood the usefulness of her powers in such a situation, but she was also nervous, it being her first actual mission. What if she got hurt? She promised Jay that she would be careful… Could she manage to keep that promise despite being alone in her venture into the enemy’s territory?

“I understand. Just tell me where to go and I’ll do whatever you’ll need of me,” she said with more courage than she actually felt at the time. Her knees were feeling jittery, and her insides felt like they were filled with stones. But she would do this. She would help in any way she was needed. Rahne was important to everyone—including her. It was necessary to save her. But… Where was John? She hadn’t the slightest.

If there was one thing she was going to need to get used to… it would have to be everyone calling her “Blackout” instead of Ramona.

Raising his head as he heard his codename being called, Alistair nodded. Nightcrawler? Was he the blue one? Listening closely as the odd man gave his orders, Alistair’s eyes casually shifted to his side where Ramona was standing. She was scared. With a slight sigh he realized that her fear could compromise her in the mission, but this thought was washed away when he heard the slight determination in her voice. Raising his arm he touched her on the shoulder, nodding his head once towards her before looking around at the rest of the people gathered in the dining hall.

For the most part they all looked well trained. In particular was one of the teachers, Wolverine was it? There was also the rather threatening blue looking demon.

The others didn’t have much power presence though, the blonde haired girl he knew could make explosives but this other girl… her eyes were sharp like an animal and something seemed…familiar about her. Shrugging off the deja vu feeling, Alistair returned his attention to the man giving the orders. “I’ll drain their compound dry. Don’t worry about it.” he said in a confident voice before turning back towards Nightcrawler and who he presumed to be Toad. “I’ll race you to her. Just try and keep up.”

Seeming a little bit unnatural thinking of himself going along with those who he had formerly fought, he felt a little more comfortable when he saw Tabby show up… and he relaxed a fraction.

Wolverine toting in the box of costumes startled him at first—but the not-so-big man always rather put him on edge… so this was nothing new. He had already known about the suits, as he had been speaking to Forge about them before the big man lost his memory… and he dug in for his own quickly—and without a word.

Laura slinking in from the woodwork also caught him off-guard—but she didn’t scare him quite as much right off the outset—even though she probably should have.

However much he blanked out a little throughout all the talking (as he knew already what was going on), his attention came right back when Forge mentioned John—and his hackles raised.

“Pyro wen’ ta’ get ‘er las’ night an’ he hasn’ come back!” he snapped at Forge. “He ain’t bein’ an asshole, he’s fuckin’ in there, too!”

For a moment, he took in a steadying breath to contain himself, all his anxiety hitting at once all over again. But he wouldn’t ignore anyone—he was supposed to be working with Kurt; that much comforted him; and… Shockwave? Who was that?

When the Asian boy addressed himself and Kurt, he figured that that was him. “Hey, racin’ ain’t a fair competition,” he stated pointely, knowing that Kurt could go faster than any human’s feet—and that his own leaps were above average speed, now that his legs were longer. “But y’er on.”

Kurt was definitely interested in the new suit he received and had changed into it as soon as the instructions were given while he mulled over the details. He was the leader of his three-man squad. He was the leader. He had to lead them in and get the job done… A nervous chill moved up his spine, but a soft comfort was given to him as he felt the texture of the new suit on his skin and he remembered that Todd was in his group. It would be nice working with him for a change. He needed to concentrate on the positive aspects… But it was indeed difficult when he heard Todd shout about what happened to John. There was no room for failure now. Two people he cared for deeply were in danger—and he was bringing one into the fire with him.

He walked back into the room with a stony expression on his face—noting the third male—Alistair, Shockwave—with a cool glance. He did not know the other male at all. In fact, he had no prior knowledge of his abilities until now. It was a useful ability indeed, and Kurt was honored to work with him.

And when he heard the Asian boy’s comment… he actually allowed a fanged grin to appear on his face.

“It would be more than an unfair race, mein freund. I’d hate to leave you in the dust.”

He took Todd’s hand in his own, squeezing it gently.

Luckily Tabitha was wearing her sunglasses, so she could shield her eyes from view as she rolled them, again and again when Logan talked. Surly the badger had lost his mind at some point in all of this. Don’t kill anyone? DON’T KILL anyone? PFFT. Nope. No, no, no. If someone came at Tabitha with the intent to kill, and she knew they would, she was going to kill right back. No ifs, ands, or buts. Self defense, they were coming at the X-men with full force, and if Tabitha and Laura were restraining themselves because they couldn’t kill anyone, they would be at a serious disadvantage.

The blonde girl grabbed her new suit and examined it carefully. For the first time since she saw the little red wolf on her e-mail, a devious grin came to her lips. “Nice work, Nerd.” She smirked at Forge as she slipped into her new uniform.  Tabitha had loving nicknames for her superiors, because of her authority issues, but it was all in love. Badger and Nerd. This suit wasn’t as stylish as her sirens outfit, but hey, bulletproof.  She took off her sunglasses so she could cover her face with her new mask.

Do or die time, she told herself again. Now more than ever. Because Tabitha wasn’t going to hold back, and if she killed someone, and she was most likely going to kill someone, she was going to get thrown out of the X-mansion. Again.  But it was worth it. Rahne was worth it. Living to see tomorrow… it was something Tabitha had full intention of doing. No holding back. The tables had turned again, now they had Pyro too…this just…no. It needed to stop.

Logan looked over to the squealing toad-boy and pointed a finger “Shut it, we’re not in a highschool gym and ya’ didn’t fucking miss yer chance ta’ be team captain. I don’t care how upset ya’ are right now, emotions aren’t important. You shut ‘em off good because otherwise you’ll die. Got it, frog-boy?”

He watched the others in mostly silence, getting out a cigar, lighting it and waiting. He may as well keep busy.

Hmm…

Where’s Gumbo…

Guess he’s bein’ a chicken’er off doin’ somethin’. Probably drunk. That boy needs an intervention.

"Excited ta’ be leadin’ a team, Elf? Ya’ll do fine. Don’t look so worried. And no races. Work time."

Wait. Why was he holding hands with the frog?

Well isn’t that in unattractive pair. He could do so much better. So. Much. Better.

And Toad could.. go be sexually attracted to lily-pads or something.

When finally those who were volunteering had been decided, and the plot was about to set into motion, the Professor found himself on the edge of his seat (in a figurative sense)—the time for action was now.

With one final deep breath, the Professor called out to each of them mentally.

X-Men,…

Forge gathered his laptop and moved to the dining hall as fast as his legs would carry him, waiting for the students to show up. God, they needed to hurry. Once they were in, he could lead them into battle like real heros… or so he hoped.

Ramona could feel the cold air of the shadows brush along her skin as she moved in and out of the darkness, flashing through spaces as if teleporting while she ran to the dining hall. There was no time to waste. They barely had any time left, for starters, and this was a dire mission. While she had not exactly been trained by professional standards, she had been honing her abilities in her own time. It may not be a perfect understanding… it was what she had. She was going to save her friend no matter what was waiting at the location.

Of course she had chosen an ensemble of black for this. How else could she exploit her powers in a more suiting appearance? The Brit was highly aware that you could not just go to a high-risk mission in a dress or a skirt like you were going to a bloody party—and had dressed for the occasion.

After a final dash, she appeared in front of the dining hall’s door. With a hard swallow and a cold chill settling in her gut, she entered.

Pulling on his black gloves before tightening the  belt around his waist, Alistair let out a heavy sigh as he looked at himself in the mirror. Was the yellow jumpsuit really all they had? Looking at the window, he held out his hand. I’m coming for you Rahne. Just hold on. He thought to himself silently before exiting his room.

Once he was out of his room he broke into a furious run, the power in the mansion flickering on and off while he drained as much energy a he could before he got down to the dining room. “I’m here.” he said, waving at the others who were there. “So what’s the plan?”

In the time it took for the other units to gather, Todd had found himself still debating whether they had found him one of their number in the first place… having not really been accepted by much of anyone… other than a few intimate friends.

And what they all didn’t know about the fact that he was asked to study them…

Naturally, he felt a little uncomfortable heading in—but the fact was, Rahne needed to be saved; he was not going to just sit back and idly watch as the others rushed off for that very purpose.

He had already vowed to get her back—but he was figuring on getting John back as well. After having shown Kurt the note that had been left behind, he hadn’t slept or left the other boy’s company… knowing that the furry one was the last grip he had left. He would stick with him.

“I don’ care if they wan’ me there, A’m goin’ wit’ you, Kurt,” came his solemn vow, as he took the other’s hand in his own. “Ya’ can get us there faster’n I can.”

Todd’s words were the first thing Kurt could really wrap him brain around. His entire body was battle-ready. He’d gotten suited up quickly already. He was more than set to get her back. Everything that he had circling in his mind was leaning on saving Rahne—and now John as well. But he also held a responsibility to another person… and that was Todd.

“Of course they’ll want you there. The Professor contacted all of us. You’re one of us now, which means you’re more than welcome. Besides…” he mused as he squeezed the other male’s hand reassuringly, “There is no one in this entire mansion I’d rather go into this fray with than you. I both love and trust you. We’re getting them both back, and they will back me up on that.”

His words were warmer than he felt. Definitely so. But they were honest words spoken by the equally honest Kurt. His rosary was wrapped around his wrist, comforting as it brushed along his skin.

Without another word, he teleported them into the dining hall to meet with the others.

Tabitha was so hyped up on adrenaline that she was practically shaking. She felt like she was, she was incredibly jumpy, her hands were trembling just a little as she pulled on her leather gloves. Once more, Tabitha was clad in her Sirens uniform.  Tonight was the night, it was really now or never. They were going to storm the area, rescue Rahne, and in Tabitha’s case, she was going to blow the heads off of everyone she came in contact with. As if to test, the blonde girl pointed one finger in the air, like she had an invisible gun, and projected a small get of fiery explosions into the air, similar to a blow torch. The flame combusted in a tiny explosion, and Tabitha made her way down the steps.

She slid down the banister of the stairs into the great hall and made her way to the door of the great hall. This was it. It was time. She strode in silently, it was time to get the information, find Laura, and get out of here. Time to rescue Rahne, and finish this once and for all.

The feral old man made his way to the dining hall, looking at the others and rolling his blue eyes. Moving towards the group, he gathered the box of suits that were for the kids, knowing Forge would not have remembered (being that much of a dufus), and dropped the heavy crate, pulling out the named contraptions.

"Each’a ya’ squirts come an’ get suited up. No plain leathers. I may be indestructible but you aren’t. Techno-nerd over here put together acid proof, fire proof, bullet proof, zap-proof. Each of them also acts to help your mutations. For some of you, this’s yer first battle, so you’ll have to learn the hard way what you’re doin’. No real names, codenames only. You will be assigned a team, and either Nightcrawler or myself will be the lead. You will obey orders, no ifs or ands."

He was already in his own suit, mask and all. “You can maim - you teach these dicks a lesson fer fuckin’ with our own, but don’t kill. We ain’t monsters.”

Laura’s very un-childlike explanations still seemed to catch the Professor off-guard at first… but when Logan explained that she was ‘more cold and calculating than he was’… well, he laughed a little. “I can tell she has a very concise manner of speaking, Logan. That does not mean she is ‘cold and calculating’.”

He turned his wise eyes to the girl, then, and offered a kindly smile. “We would be glad to take you in, Laura. We could, frankly, use all the help we can get—and you sound like an intelligent young woman. I believe you’ll catch on very quickly.”

Logan’s blunt commentary was beginning to get on his nerves a bit… but he outwardly made no gesture to indicate this. “Well, if it is all she has been doing her entire life, it will be all she knows, Logan. Her clean record speaks well to me, and I will be glad to have her integrated into the students here… to perhaps give her a little more experience with just being a teenager.”

Laura eyed both men and pursed her lips in bewilderment. This was not how she expected to be welcomed. Sure, she’d been expecting some sort of acceptance into their program since she was a highly adept killing machine and could be of some use, but they were speaking of her as if she was actually applying as a run of the mill student. It was still messing with her head. First Logan treating her like a person, then another man not even tied to her by DNA. This was not the reception she had been led to expect by Doctor Rice.

She smiled hesitantly. “I am smart, that is true. And I am a very fast learner…when it comes to battle tactics… I don’t actually know my learning curve when it comes to…people.” I haven’t had much experience with that. It frustrated her slightly that there was something she would be behind in. Being behind meant she had to work harder at survival.

“I will be an excellent student.”

"Well, if yer my clone you’ll do fine at bookwork even if it annoys you… I’ve always been able to hold my own academically even if I fucking hate that shit. Don’t worry about that so much as just learning over how you’re supposed to… act around these people. Can’t say you’re ever going to be on level because even though I’ve got a lot more experience I still don’t act ‘normal’."

He shrugged then and rolled his eyes “Wheels, none of the kids here can just ‘act like teenagers’ with the shit going on around these parts, and in the world. She’ll be as relaxed as she can possibly stand, and you know that’s about it.”

With a bit of a smug little grin, he looked over to the girl and chuckled “Baldy here’s the den mother of all the kids. Don’t let him fool you, ain’t no one a normal teenager or otherwise here.”
